OCR- uNIT 2 pre production and planning mock

Answer all questions. Section A

1(a)  Identify two costs that Ian needs to consider when developing the 247Me app and explain how these costs impact on the project. (6)

Despite doing target research through a local market research company to lower costs, this is still a big cost Ian should consider and keep in mind while budgeting as the target research will help make this app look appealing to the 14-24 year old target, which have very different tastes and opinions. Another cost would be paying his personnel, Ella and Josh, to do the physical creation and design of the app itself which if they need help since Ella is a new graphic designer, you may need to hire and pay outside assistance to come in and aid the project.

(b)  Identify one type of project management tool that Ian could use to keep track of the project tasks and explain why it is suitable for this task. (3)
For this project, since there is only a small team working on it, having a work flow tool could be helpful as it's split by team member so that it is clear who's doing what and when. This means deadlines are clear for each individual and anyone that relies on someone finishing first; meaning they can see when people should be done and who's falling behind, allowing people to help pick up others work.

2  Ella is a Graphic Designer. Discuss how her training and skills could be used by ProgressMediaUK when developing the 247Me app. (9)
Ella can be useful in serval stages of the production process. Being a graphic designer means shell have skills in drawing either free hand or in vectors so she can even show the team basics for them to help her with her work. During the pre production she will need to read through the brief and target research and begin designing serval versions, ideas and styles of the app until she makes one that the client and the team are happy with. This will take serval stages of development but its a key role in this project. She would also be in control of designing, not just the apps lay out but also the logo for the app, colour schemes and another  aesthetic aspects due to the creative eye that comes with being a graphic designer, she would have studied colour theory. Ella would then help with production, making the final layout of the app, with Josh's help, and making sure her aesthetic choices are functional as well as stylish and fitting to the target audiences preferences. During Post Production she can manage touch ups on the graphics or the layout and see what works and what doesn't.

3 Identify one act of legislation that is applicable to the 247Me app. (1)

The Data Protection act as its a social media platform which will contain the users personal data they must protect it.

4 A mock-up design of the 247Me app login screen has been created. Ian has given this to the marketing research company that ProgressMediaUK use.

a)
i. Identify one method of primary research that could be carried out using the mocked up design and explain why it is suitable (3)

This mock up design could be taken to a focus group, where variations of the target audience can look at and discuss the log in screen. That way primary research can be gathered on the opinions of the mock up and allows the company to see who it appeals to directly.

ii. Explain one reason why open-ended questions would be a suitable research tool for the 247ME app development (3)

Open-ended answers allow for a wide range of opinions, answers and criticisms, helping the team see flaws a lot easier than binary yes or not questions. People can share exactly what they like and dislike and the product can improve itself a lot easier on this advice.

iii. Explain one issue that could be caused for ProgressMediaUK by analysing the data collected using open-ended questions. (3)

The issue with open ended questions is there will be so many differing opinions, not all the changes can be made to keep everyone happy. There can be completely contrasting opinions and unless people come up with similar changes or dislikes, there will be a lot of data that you cant change or develop.

b) Explain one way the outcome of the market research could affect the development of the 247Me app. (3)

If, through the market research, an over arching flaw is pointed out continuously, the team will need to back track and come up with ways to fix the issues the public may have pointed out. This will overall slow the development of the app, but will lead to better result.

c) Explain one reason why it is important to sample all genders in the 247Me app research. (3)

Its good to sample a wide variety as you can see who your app's designers appeal to most and base your target audiences off that, or allow you to change things so that it appeals to any gender a lot easier.

5 Ella and Josh have identified a number of tasks that would need to be carried out during the development of the 247Me app.
Use the tasks listed at the top of the table to create a basic project plan showing the work flow that would need to be completed.

The first one has been done for you.

6 When ProgressMediaUK offered you the apprenticeship, you were required to sign a form giving the intellectual property rights of any work you produce to ProgressMediaUK.

Explain why you were required to sign this form (3)

Once I join this company all of my ideas and creations that I have during my time at the company would have been protected as mine due to IP law, but by signing this form the company have control over my ideas and work.

7 Using the product brief provided by Mikael to ProgressMediaUK:

(a) Identify one explicit requirement

The app must be a social media platform which works across phones and tablets.

(b) Identify one requirement that is open to interpretation.

The target audience is between14-24, so I can aim for an audience of either gender between that age range.

(c) Identify one constraint on the project.

Our time constraint is fairly short, as the project needs to be done by the end of April.
