Project Management and Logistics
Project management and Logistics
Things to consider during project management-
Finances- how the budget will be split between groups.
Personnel- what tasks we have to complete and who is going to do it?
Research- planning for preproduction.
Time- How long things will take you and how to split it evenly.
Logistics- Complex process of organising resources for production
examples-
-Personnel
(Those working with you on the product can have issues between themselves which will need to be sorted- E.G. Conflicting ideas on project, you need to help resolve it.)
-Props
-Production equipment
-Locations
(Scouting for locations, having back ups and booking them)
(how will you bring your team to the locations: you could use buses, cars, vans)
-Care on location
-Its extremely helpful as it clarifies the goals for the day on one sheet that everyone can have
-it lists all the resources and logistical details as well as creative aims.
Logistic forms-
Individual Release form- for individuals working on a project, to sign over the rights to their work and/or intellectual property. Often in an employment contract
This helps to avoid copy right, as you've given your intellectual property to disney. it also means you can't share your ideas with the public or other companies.
Consent Form- for everyone that appears in production, they need to give their consent to be shown. For example child actors must be signed of by a guardian if they're under 18.
Location Form-for all locations used in the film a form must be completed to not only grant access but also to appear on camera. Some buildings are subject to copyright law, which makes this form even more important
Project Management Tools-
Tools that help make the production co-ordinated and smooth. You need to have a tool that can over see an entire production.
- spreadsheet
- production schedule
- project management soft ware
- to do list
Work flow tool- Split by team member so that it is clear who's doing what and when. Often used in one group (art department)
Gantt chart - A Gantt chart uses horizontal bars to illustrate project completion dates, progress, and milestones and dependencies. Used by the whole production crew.
Production Schedule- Timetable which looks like a calendar, and its easy to allocate resources and time. but you can't see how far along people are.
Anayalise of the site Yamdu-
1. Yamdu is a project management site that is for all members of a team and provides the information a team needs clearly, quickly and effectively. It's primarily for film production management.
2. The sites advertisements show a lot of young adults, people just starting a career in media and need help organising themselves effectively.
3. They offer layouts to a range of management tools and forms that are essential for film production such as finance management, shooting schedules, casting databases, call sheets and even make up department.
4. You can tell their target audience is young blossoming film makers from both the images of young adults on their site and their main description of themselves being "Master your film production management with yamdu". They also offer a lot of forms specific for film and tv productions.
5. The cost of the site can be free for the first month with limited usage, the most advanced setting is £39 and the two cheaper options are £5 and £9. These prices seem fair for the service, however if they're targeting new film makers, they won't apply for the advanced settings.
SWOT-
Strengths
- The site is helpful for those just starting out
- is more affordable at its most basic settings for peoples first movies / shows.
- Its available in a wide range of regions and languages.
- offers a clear layout and many options of documents for beginners and also experienced film makers.
Weaknesses
- its not available in the USA and other european countries.
- The simplicity of the site could put off more experienced customers who would opt for the more expensive option.
- the full version seems over priced.
opportunities
- It makes the layout for you
- helps everything look clear and presentable
- As the site does a lot of the work for customers, a whole team would use and buy the site, leading to more revenue
Threats
- You could probably find free sites that would have similar out comes
- the more advanced version is very expensive, putting of your target audience of new film makers
- simplicity of the site will put off secondary target of experienced film makers.

ReplyDeleteYour class notes are strong - defining all key terms and showing good understanding. One progression could be to add in evaluation for each of the documents - the exam will require this skill so it's good to be looking at the strengths and weaknesses in preparation.
However, your YAMDU work, whilst answering the questions, does not show high level understanding of the strengths and weakness - please refine the SWOT analysis by adding more points and engaging with more depth in the website.
Please add a comment below reflecting on my comments and explaining any changes you have made.
Mr P
i added more to the SWOT and added some more detail to a couple of the Yamdu questions.
