Advertising In the UK
Advertising in the UK
- by 2020 online ads will account for 60% of marketing budgets
- TV will have 21.5%- decline from the 25%
- BARB- average UK viewer watches 45 TV ads a day with no skips
The Prices of 30 second ads on British channels:
- ITV- in order to show a 30 second ad during breakfast is £3,000-£4,000 on average, for day time is around £500 more than morning as more people will be awake to possibly see it and peak time is anything from £10,000-£30,000 as that's when the largest proportion of people will be watching.
- Channel 4- putting ads on between shows for channel 4 is cheaper than ITV, with day time being £1,000-£2,00 and peak being £10,000-£20,000, once again, being more expensive when its likely more people will see.
- Channel 5- 30 second ads on channel 5 are even cheaper as day time can range between £800-£1,600 and peak time being £2,500 to £4,500, still following this concept.
- sky 1- Sky 1 adverts are significantly cheaper as sky is a subscription service and their main revenue isn't souly from advertising, however the subscription service means there will be a smaller percentage of people who will see the ads and not everyone has a Sky box. Meaning day time can be £150-£250 and peak time is often from £650 to £1,150
- sports channels- depends on the type of sport greatly, including who's playing. For example in England football is one of the most popular sports, so the Ad break between a football game would be more expensive than ads between a golf game, as the organization's can count on a bigger audience viewing the games, thus viewing the ads. This also applies to who's playing; where more popular teams- for example if Arsenal played Spurs, there would be a wider audience than if two local teams were playing, meaning popular games would have more expensive ad breaks. During peak time sky sports is between £60-£750, day time being £10-£50. On other sports channels the price is unlikely to go above £200
- Other digital channels- As they're less popular than other big name channels, they won't have as many people watching, meaning advertisers won't be willing to pay a lot for a small target market- leading to day time ranging from £50-£150 and peak time is £150-£300. The lowest rates there are for Day rates on E!£0-£50

ReplyDeleteThese notes are clear and address all points. However, I have noticed that some of your classmates have included more detail in their responses. Please ensure that going forward you fully explain all points - for example on Sports TV, you could have offered some examples of what would be expensive and cheap, explaining why. Please add in this type of example based improvement for each channel.
Please add a comment below reflecting on my comments and explaining any changes you have made.
